The Ladies who Lunch: We're raising our profile - and funds

It all started with the women of Wizo, founded in 1918, who in the intervening near-century have raised tens of millions for Israel's most needy.

Generations of women have come together in support of the welfare organisation and it was once considered the charity for "ladies who lunch".

BBC journalist John Ware has claimed that there is a “deficit” in the corporation’s coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The award-winning investigative journalist, who worked on the BBC public affairs programme Panorama from 1986 to 2012, was speaking at the Wizo Commitment Awards event on Monday night.

Wizo Week cash boost

Wizo's annual Jewish Women's Week campaign has this year raised almost £250,000 for the charity's welfare work in Israel. One thousand volunteers made the collections in Jewish neighbourhoods throughout the country.

In its 67th year, Jewish Women's Week is the only Jewish charity project with government authorisation for a door-to-door collection.


Wizo send £1.7m to Israel
