Our Johannesburg boycott 'not academic'

The vice-chancellor of the University of Johannesburg (UJ) has denied that his university supports an academic boycott of Israel, despite announcing earlier this week that it is severing ties with its longtime Israeli partner, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU).

Anti-Zionist Nir Rosen resigns from LSE, after two days

Pro-Hizbollah journalist Nir Rosen has resigned from a controversial fellowship at LSE, just days after announcing his appointment.

Mr Rosen, a staunch anti-Zionist, announced on Friday that he had been appointed a Fellow at LSE's Centre for Global Governance.

He was widely criticised in February for comments he made about the sexual assault of CBS reporter Lara Logan.

Birmingham embraces EU

March 24, 2011

All speakers invited to appear at the University of Birmingham will, in future, be required to adhere to the EU Monitoring Committee's working definition of antisemitism.

Birmingham Guild of Students passed a motion last week requiring all societies and speakers to work with the EUMC guidelines to ensure incidents on campus do not allow antisemitic language or behaviour.

No boycott at LSE or Edinburgh Union

The president of Edinburgh University Students' Association has confirmed a proposed boycott of Israeli products will not be enforced.

Around 270 students at the university last week voted in favour of a motion which described Israel as an apartheid state and called for a boycott of goods.

Dialogue worked - threats did not

A group of Israeli students are celebrating the "phenomenal" success of their tour of British universities.

The 25 students made up part of the largest pro-active pro-Israel campaign in recent years and travelled to campuses in London, Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham on a "battle bus" to mark Israel Awareness Week.

Individual university Jewish Societies also ran their own events.

Members of the Israeli education organisation Stand With Us have said they felt "shaken and distressed" and like victims of the Nazis after a pro-Israel protester was bitten on the cheek at an Israel Apartheid Week event at SOAS, the School of Oriental and African Studies.

Pro-Israel protester attacked at SOAS

A pro-Israel protester has been taken to hospital after being bitten on the cheek outside SOAS, the School of Oriental and African Studies, today. Police arrested two men on suspicion of affray. They have been bailed without charges for dates in April.
