Playtime is over — US and Israel must get real

While Israelis were still voting, his spokesman reiterated that the United States “will continue to make clear that only through direct negotiations can the Palestinians and the Israelis… achieve the peace they both deserve”.

Rabbi could run for John Kerry's Senate seat

A rabbi could be in the running to replace John Kerry when he takes on the job of Secretary of State.

The Massachusetts senator and former presidential hopeful is leaving his seat to take over Hillary Clinton's role in the Obama administration.

According to reports, Boston rabbi Jonah Plesner is considering running for the seat.

Long-serving senator Joe Lieberman says goodbye

The man who was once in the running to be the first Jewish vice-president in history is to retire from public life this week.

Joe Lieberman, who remains the only Jew to have run for the United States' second-highest office in the history of the major parties, announced a year ago that he would not be standing for re-election and will officially step down on Thursday.

Aipac and Reform poles apart on US Israel policy

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (Aipac) which defines itself as “America’s Pro-Israel Lobby”, has called for the closing of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation’s offices in Washington following the UN vote to upgrade the Palestinian Authority.

Act now, don’t wait for tragedies like Sandy Hook

The tranquillity of Chanucah was shattered as news began to filter in of the tragic events unfolding at Sandy Hook Elementary School. We learned that 20 children aged six and seven, and six of their teachers and administrators had been murdered. As an Israeli friend put it: "We are a country that is used to being shocked, but this is truly shocking."

Bomb threat to LA synagogue

A Los Angeles Reform synagogue has been closed while police investigate a series of bomb threats.

A suspicious package, discovered adjacent to Wilshire Boulevard Temple on Monday, was blown up by the LA Police Department (LAPD). The package was not found to contain any explosives.

The youngest victim of Sandy Hook: Jewish Noah Pozner, 6

The youngest of the 20 children killed in the worst school shooting in US history in Connecticut on Friday was Noah Pozner.

Noah, a pupil at Sandy Hook Elementary School, was shot 11 times. His twin sister also attends the school but survived the attack in which 26 died.
