Marines apologise for SS flag photo

The US Defence Secretary has issued an apology after it emerged that a group of US marines had posed with a flag that "adopted the SS insignia".

Leon Panetta's office expressed regret for the insensitivity displayed by the sniper team when it posed alongside a US flag and another bearing "a Nazi-related symbol".

Members of the US Marine Corp have been criticised after a photograph surfaced of them posing with a flag that "adopted the SS insignia".

Ten Marines, who were serving in Afghanistan, were pictured next to a flag bearing "a Nazi-related symbol", as well as a US flag. The photo was said to have been taken in September 2010 but was not brought to the unit's attention until late last year.

A woman who has renounced her Chasidic background is set to send shockwaves around New York's strictly Orthodox community after writing a tell-all memoir about her upbringing.

Deborah Feldman turned her back on life in Brooklyn's Satmar community two years ago, after being pushed into an arranged marriage at 17 years old and becoming a mother at the age of 20.

Super Bowl bet winner giving money to charity

An Orthodox Jewish sports fan who won $50,000 on a bet before the Super Bowl has announced that he will donate the money to charity.

New Yorker Jona Rechnitz is a lifelong fan of the Giants, and decided to place a $1,000 bet on his team before the biggest match in the American football calendar.

Obama orders sanctions on Iran

President Barack Obama is ordering a new wave of sanctions on Iran.

The US president announced the executive order this afternoon instating additional sanctions on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's government and on Iran's Central Bank, because of the "deceptive practices" of it and other Iranian banks.

President Obama has reaffirmed his commitment to Israel and sent a warning signal to Iran in the final State of the Union address of his first term in office.

The president told America that the country's "ironclad commitment to Israel's security has meant the closest military co-operation" in history and vowed that he would consider every option to reign in Iran.

Katy Perry's dad in anti-Jewish rant at church

The preacher father of pop star Katy Perry attacked Jews in a recent church sermon.

Keith Hudson told church congregants in Ohio that the way "to make the Jew jealous" was to "have some money, honey".

The 63-year-old, whose daughter is famous for hits including "I kissed a girl" and "Teenage Dream", said that in Los Angeles the Jews owned "all the Rolex and diamonds".
