Israel tour still a must as 1,200 teens sign up

More than one in five teenagers joining youth movement tours to Israel this summer will be receiving help to pay for their trips.

Ten organisations are running trips this year, with a total of 1,216 participants. UJIA, which co-ordinates the trips, said that almost £200,000 had been allocated after 260 youngsters applied for bursaries.

Big crowds at Closer to Israel parade

Thousands of people flocked to central London today for British Jewry’s biggest solidarity event with Israel for five years.

Closer to Israel, a celebration of the country’s 65th anniversary, began outside Hyde Park at midday, followed by a two-hour gathering in Trafalgar Square from 2pm.

Israel parade planners aim for ‘carnival’ spirit

The organisers of next month’s Closer to Israel parade in central London said they were confident of a strong turn-out as the route it will take was unveiled.

Former UJIA chief executive Douglas Krikler, who chairs the planning committee, said that although the decision to stage the June 2 event had been “taken at a relatively late stage,” support was encouraging.

Why Israel tours will be getting more scientific

April 16, 2013

Youth group members on Israel tours this year will have an additional item on their itinerary — a visit to the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot.

The idea originated from Weizmann UK as part of its educational drive and has been taken up by UJIA, which organises the Israel trips, and the youth movements themselves.
