On this day: Palestinian gunmen kill nine Israelis

In one of the grimmer incidents of the intifada, a Palestinian gunman ambushed a group of Israeli servicemen and shot dead seven of them.

A further three Israeli civilians were killed in the terrorist attack, which took place at an army checkpoint in the Jewish settlement of Ofra.

On this day: Hizbollah publishes its manifesto

Some 30 years after it was founded and 26 after it released an “Open Message” from Beirut, Hizbollah remains a constant threat to Israel and an obstacle to peace efforts in the Middle East.

The terrorist group, formed with the backing of the Iranian Islamist revolutionaries the 1980s, began with the aim of pushing Israel out of Lebanon. But its 1985 manifesto also called for a continuous jihad until Israel was destroyed and for the creation of an Islamic republic in Lebanon.

Mighty Mouse: Israel's bomb sniffing mice

Israel’s advanced security methods are known as some of the best in the world, but a new development should raise more than a squeak.

Researchers from BioExplorers, a Herzliya-based company, have discovered that mice can be used to detect bombs.

They believe the technique could even be more accurate in finding explosives than the controversial full-body scanners.

Police not ready for Mumbai-type terror

The Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police told Jewish lawyers on Wednesday that British police were not prepared to deal with a Mumbai-style attack in the UK.

In the attack in 2008, Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife Rivka were murdered with four other hostages and a total of 164 people when terrorists attacked three targets in India’s largest city.

But Peter Fahy told 35 legal professionals at an event held by Manchester’s Organisation of Jewish Lawyers that in the past few months there was “a heightened threat level of this type of attack in the UK”.

Israeli terror victims cheer for Arsenal

Israeli victims of terror watched Arsenal earn a Carling Cup final place during a three-day London visit organised by One Family UK.

Waving team scarves and cheering loudly when Arsenal scored their three goals, the group managed to make it on camera when the BBC broadcast crowd scenes. Their itinerary also took in Buckingham Palace and a performance of The Lion King.

One of the group had been involved in the controversial clash between the Israeli navy and pro-Palestinian activists on the Gaza-bound flotilla last May.

Palestinians arrested for Jerusalem tourist stabbing

A group of Palestinian men involved in both terror and criminal activity have been arrested in connection with the stabbing of two women in the Jerusalem Hills last month. Two of the men were indicted for the murder of American tourist Kristine Luken and the serious wounding of her friend, British immigrant Kaye Wilson.

Medvedev: Russia needs Israeli-style airport security

The Russian president has said that the country will adopt Israeli-style security procedures in order to prevent a repeat of yesterday’s devastating suicide bombing.

Speaking less than 24-hours after a bomber blew themselves up in the middle of Moscow's Domodedovo airport, Dmitry Medvedev said "comprehensive checks" as used in Israel would be the only solution.

At least 35 people were killed in the attack, and many more were injured. Islamist militants from the Northern Caucasus region of Russia, which includes conflict-zone Chechnya, are believed to be behind the attack.

Terror plot discovered at UK consulate in Jerusalem

The Israeli security service Shin Bet has uncovered an alleged plot by two Palestinian employees of the UK consulate in Jerusalem to sell weapons to terrorists.

The pair, named by the British Foreign Office as Mohammed Hamadeh and Bilal Bakhatan, have been charged along with another man with illegally selling arms.

The Israeli authorities said they believed the weapons were for use by two Hamas members from east Jerusalem who have been indicted on suspicion of planning to launch a missile at a Jerusalem football stadium.
