Matchmaking mum's web bid to find son a wife

A Jewish mother has become so fed up with waiting for her son to settle down that she has set up a website to find him a wife.

Just weeks after an enterprising son tried to auction his Jewish mother on eBay the tables have turned as New Yorker Geri Brin launched a site to find her son Colby a girlfriend.

Ms Brin, an Internet entrepreneur who works with Colby, has started “Date My Single Kid" to help her and other parents find matches for their single offspring.

Survivor disco dances at Auschwitz

A video featuring a Holocaust survivor dancing at Auschwitz to the pop song "I Will Survive" has received a mixed reaction across the internet, with many slamming it as “disgusting” and “tasteless”.

Jane Korman, a Jewish Australian artist, filmed her 89-year-old father Adolk and other family members performing a routine to the disco hit at different points around the Nazi concentration camp.

Judge bars barmitzvah

Three children have been barred from having bar and batmitzvah ceremonies because their devout Catholic father does not want them to be committed to Judaism.

A court ruled that the children’s Jewish mother could not arrange for them to participate until they either made their own choice to or the father changed his mind.

The father, known only as Mr Macri, sought the injuction in the Australian court so that his children can pick their religion in a ''voluntary and informed'' way when they are more mature.

Grandmother, 63, put on eBay

When 63-year-old grandmother Sandi Firth asked her son to put her dining room table on eBay for her, she had no idea it was not the only thing he was planning to sell.

The next day he called to tell her that he had placed another item in the Collectibles category on the auction website - his very own "Yiddishe Momma".

James Doyan, a 38-year-old management consultant, said he decided to auction his mother, who lives in Leeds, after "having enough of her exploits in trying to find love".

Mother-in-law jokes OK, court rules

An American federal court judge has defended one woman's right to make jokes about her mother-in-law.

Comic Sunda Croonquist, who is a regular on the Hollywood comedy circuit, was taken to court by her husband's mother, Ruth Zafrin, for allegedly spreading false, defamatory and racist lies about her.

Ms Croonquist, who is half-Swedish and half-black, converted to Judaism before she met her husband, and regularly jokes about her relationship with her mother-in law and sister-in-law.

Terror tefillin brings down a jet

A passenger plane from New York to Louisville was forced to make an emergency landing today after a Jewish teenager's tefillin were thought to be terrorist devices.

A 17-year-old, travelling with his 16-year-old sister, decided to lay tefillin and strapped the two leather boxes to his head and arm before praying. But alarmed passengers, who did not know what the tefillin were, alerted the crew and the plane was diverted to Philadelphia International Airport, where it was met by emergency security personnel.

Bagel boss caught on camera chewing over price-fixing deal

Britain’s two biggest bagel companies are at war after the boss of one was secretly filmed at a kosher restaurant allegedly suggesting a price-fixing arrangement.

Peter Maycock, of New York Bagel Company, was clandestinely filmed by Paul Kahalani at Met Su Yan in Golders Green as they discussed a possible buyout of Mr Kahalani’s firm, The Bagel Group. The companies supply almost all of the 200 million bagels sold in UK supermarkets annually, with New York Bagel accounting for 90 per cent of the market.
