Final heartbreak for Bychenko

Alexei Bychenko finished 21st in the Men's Figure Skating final on Friday night.

As in the earlier round, the Israel's fell again on the second jump, but recovered well to score 114.62 points giving him an overall tally of 177.06.

Olympic woe for Gold

America’s Arielle Gold cut a dejected figure after her medal hopes were ended by injury before even competing in Sochi.

The 17-year-old arrived in Russia confident of a podium finish, but she was left teary-eyed after crashing in her final warm-up before the Snowboard halfpipe event and ruled out of the competition after falling heavily on her arm.


Bychenko looking to add to medal flurry in Sochi

Alexei Bychenko has reached the final of the men's figure skating event in Sochi.

The Ukrainian-born Israeli suffered a fall in his second jump, but recovered to score 62.44 points and claim 22nd place out of the 30 contestants. The top 24 compete in tonight's final.


More misery for Bykanov

Vladislav Bykanov has also missed out on a place in the semi-finals of the 1,000m short-track speed skating competition after finishing third in his heat.

As in the 1,500 meters, the Ukrainian-born Israeli led in the early part of the race before slipping back and finishing in 1 mins 26.5 secs.

Bykanov will also race in the 500 meters next Tuesday, his strongest distance.


Israelis reach skating final in Sochi

Andrea Davidovich and Evgeni Krasnopolski advanced to the final of the free skating pairs competition when they finished 15th out of 20 in the qualifying competition in Sochi.

Speaking after the qualifiers - where the top 16 couples progressed - Krasnopolski said: "It's a fantastic feeling. We were very tense all day and really nervous up to the last moment.

Vladislav Bykanov missed out on a place in the semi-finals of the 1,500m short-track speed skating competition after falling short in his heat.

Ukrainian-born Israeli finished fourth in the second race, finishing in 2 mins 21 secs, but only the top three progressed to the semis.

Wonderkid Andrea Davidovich has played down her chances of claiming Israel’s first-ever medal at the Winter Olympics, beginning next week.

At 16, Davidovich is the youngest member of a five-athlete delegation heading to Sochi, and she says she will use the event as stepping stone for future glory.
