Rabbi Chaim Halpern released on bail

Rabbi Chaim Halpern and three other Orthodox men in north-west London who were arrested last week have been bailed by police to return later this month.

Rabbi Halpern, who heads the Divrei Chaim Synagogue in Golders Green, was questioned in connection with investigations into alleged sexual assault and perverting the course of justice.

Brooklyn sex text rabbi caught out in police sting

A 59-year-old Brooklyn rabbi has been arrested in a police sting operation in which he allegedly attempted to meet a 14-year-old girl with whom he had been exchanging sexually explicit messages.

Rabbi Nathan David Rabinowich had in fact been sending messages to an undercover policeman, and he has now been charged with crimes including attempted rape, the New York Daily News reported.

American-Israeli rabbi dies in Jerusalem

Rabbi David Hartman, known as Israel’s “avant-garde thinker”, died last Sunday at his home in Jerusalem.

The Brooklyn-born philosopher, 81, lived in Israel for more than 40 years and founded the Shalom Hartman Institute research centre in Jerusalem. The institute, founded in 1976, promotes diverse voices in the Jewish tradition.

A man from Hackney was arrested last Thursday over allegations of harassing one of the rabbis who has opposed Golders Green rabbi, Chaim Halpern.

Barnet police said that the 28-year-old has been bailed to return to a north London police station in March.

School told to admit sons of Neturei rabbi

A Belgian court has sided with Neturei Karta Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Friedman in ordering an all-girls Jewish school, Benoth Jeruzalem, to admit his sons. If not, the school must pay a fine of 1,000 euros a day, the court said in its ruling on December 21.

The school’s director has told reporters that a decision would be made soon on how to respond.

Police called over rabbi row

Police were called on Monday night to the home of a Golders Green rabbi in the latest twist to the controversy that has engulfed the Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations in recent weeks.

Earlier that day the Union had appeared to have taken action to expel the synagogue whose rabbi, Chaim Halpern, has been accused of inappropriate conduct with women.

The youngest victim of Sandy Hook: Jewish Noah Pozner, 6

The youngest of the 20 children killed in the worst school shooting in US history in Connecticut on Friday was Noah Pozner.

Noah, a pupil at Sandy Hook Elementary School, was shot 11 times. His twin sister also attends the school but survived the attack in which 26 died.
