Sephardi leaders select new senior rabbi

Sephardi leaders have picked the man they want to be their new senior rabbi – 15 months after the previous candidate for the top pulpit post pulled out amid bitter rifts in the UK community.

Rabbi Joseph Dweck, 37, who has led Congregation Shaarei Shalom in New York since 1999, studied in Jerusalem and received his ordination from former Israeli Sephardi Chief Rabbi Ovadia Yosef.

Death of controversial Manchester rabbi

One of the most controversial rabbis to serve the Manchester community has died in Israel.

Rabbi Ivan Wachmann has died aged 77 . He was the longtime minister of the Holy Law South Broughton Hebrew Congregation, but was dismissed in 1990 after a series of allegations about sexual misconduct.

Rabbi Chaim Halpern released on bail

Rabbi Chaim Halpern and three other Orthodox men in north-west London who were arrested last week have been bailed by police to return later this month.

Rabbi Halpern, who heads the Divrei Chaim Synagogue in Golders Green, was questioned in connection with investigations into alleged sexual assault and perverting the course of justice.

Brooklyn sex text rabbi caught out in police sting

A 59-year-old Brooklyn rabbi has been arrested in a police sting operation in which he allegedly attempted to meet a 14-year-old girl with whom he had been exchanging sexually explicit messages.

Rabbi Nathan David Rabinowich had in fact been sending messages to an undercover policeman, and he has now been charged with crimes including attempted rape, the New York Daily News reported.
