Both Israeli chief rabbis cancel on the Archbishop of Canterbury

The Archbishop of Canterbury was unable to meet Israel’s two chief rabbis this week, after scheduled talks with both Rabbis were cancelled.

Archbishop Justin Welby was due to sit down with Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger and Sephardi Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar on Thursday. However, plans were thrown into disarray when Rabbi Metzger was placed under house arrest amid corruption charges.

Rabbi: child victims ‘agree’ to sex abuse

A senior Chabad rabbi in America has publicly apologised after Australian media published recordings of him suggesting child sex abuse victims may have consented to molestation.

Rabbi Baruch Lesches, a former head of the rabbinical college at Chabad’s headquarters in Sydney from the mid-1980s, said on Monday he had deep “regret” about the incident.

Israeli chief rabbi suspected of bribery and fraud

Police have raided the house of Israeli Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger.

On Thursday morning, Rabbi Metzger was interrogated on suspicion of bribery, fraud and money laundering. In 2004 the National Fraud Unit launched an investigation when they suspected he had accepted illicit perks while on holiday.
