Matisyahu: I'm more Jewish than Drake

Matisyahu has declared himself more worthy of the Jewish rapper crown than Grammy-nominated Canadian artist Drake.

The Orthodox rapper told celebrity website TMZ that his musical rival, whose real name is Aubrey Drake Graham, did not represent Jews.

He said: “He happens to be Jewish, just like Bob Dylan happens to be Jewish, just like anyone happens to be Jewish.

“What I’m doing is really tapping into my roots and culture and trying to blend that with mainstream society and culture."

Bryan Ferry to perform in Tel Aviv

British singer Bryan Ferry is to perform in Israel next month.

The former Roxy Music frontman will sing solo at a Tel Aviv venue in April, in the same week that teenage star Justin Bieber takes to the stage in the city.

The show will take place almost exactly four years after Mr Ferry was forced to apologise for describing Nazi parades and art as “amazing” and “really beautiful” in an interview with a German newspaper.

His Jewish manager Steven Howard later said of the controversy that Mr ferry did not “have a drop of antisemitic or racist blood in his body”.

Barbra Streisand to sing live at Grammy awards

Barbra Streisand is to delight fans with an unusual live performance this weekend.

The singer will take to the stage at the annual Grammy awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, where she is nominated for her album Love Is the Answer.

She will also be honoured on Friday for "creative accomplishments and philanthropy" by the Grammy's charitable foundation MusiCares.

A performance at the event celebrating her five-decade career in music and film is expected to include Tony Bennett and Stevie Wonder.

Former manager sells rare Leonard Cohen reels

Almost 300 pieces of rock music history are up for grabs after a Jewish lawyer from Hackney decided to sell his valuable collection of Leonard Cohen films.

Steven Machat is offering up 294 reels of footage of the Jewish singer, a former client of his and of his late father, music manager Marty Machat.

The previously unseen clips include scenes of the Hallelujah singer as a child at home and at concerts in cities including Jerusalem and Paris.

Macy Gray asks Facebook fans whether to boycott Israel

American singer Macy Gray has gone on Facebook to ask her fans whether she should give in to the demands of anti-Israel boycotters.

Ms Gray, who is set to perform two shows in Tel Aviv next month, has been the target of an online campaign to encourage her to cancel the tour.

More than 470 people have responded to a question by the singer, known for the hit “I try” on what she should do.
