Now Bob Geldof does like Mondays

Bob Geldof is to make his first trip to Israel to accept an honorary degree from Ben Gurion University.

And the Boomtown Rat, who shot to fame with I Don't Like Mondays, will have to change his tune - because the ceremony is planned for Monday May 30.

The award marks his anti-poverty campaigns such as the Live Aid and Live 8 concerts and his work with a range of charities.

Bob Dylan set for Israel concert

Bob Dylan is to perform in Israel for the third time this June, according to tour news on a fan website.

The American singer-songwriter, born Robert Allen Zimmerman to Jewish parents in Minnesota, is expected to perform at the Ramat Gan stadium which has recently seen shows by Leonard Cohen and Rod Stewart.

Gene Simmons: Israel boycotters are fools

Gene Simmons has criticised musicians who boycott Israel.

The Kiss bassist said those who refused to perform in Israel for political reasons were “fools”.

Mr Simmons, whose mother was an Auschwitz survivor, was born in Haifa in 1949 as Chaim Witz.

He made the comments while in Jerusalem to film scenes for his reality show, the Gene Simmons Family Jewels.

Bob Geldof to visit Israel, accept honorary degree

Musician and campaigner Bob Geldof is accepting an honorary degree from Ben Gurion University later this year.

The award from the university is being conferred in celebration of Mr Geldof's anti-poverty activism, including his organisation of the Live Aid and Live 8 concerts and his work with a range of charitable causes.

Dana International to represent Israel at Eurovision

Thirteen years after she won the competition for Israel Dana International is to represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest.

The transgender performer, whose song “Diva” convinced European voters to give her the top spot in 1998, was the third entrant to ever win the contest for Israel.

Her win came as Israel celebrated its 50th birthday.
