Review: The Audience (starring Kristin Scott Thomas)

Is it me or is the decision by director Stephen Daldry to cast Kristin Scott Thomas as the Queen in this revival of Peter Morgan's play an odd one? Facially, they couldn't be more different. Yet Scott Thomas makes up for being more beautiful than our monarch with a panoply of mannerisms and gestures that are spot-on.

I've heard it said that not many people are sorry to say goodbye to Luton. But the night I drove away, at around 4am five years ago, there was a lump in my throat. I was leaving the count of the 2010 General Election where I had been roundly defeated in my first attempt to be elected to Parliament, following three years of street-pounding, door-knocking and after-dinner-speaking in Luton North.

Jewish journalist claims he was ‘throttled’ and abused outside Respect rally

A Jewish journalist claims he was racially abused and assaulted outside a Respect party election rally in Bradford.

Ben Judah was in the city preparing a report for the Politico website when he says he was called a “****ing Jew” and ejected from the event.

The alleged incident, on Sunday, has been reported to police and the Community Security Trust.

Fury over Tory candidate’s Miliband ‘the Jew’ Facebook post

A Conservative council candidate has been suspended by the party after she referred to Labour leader Ed Miliband as “the Jew”.

Gulzabeen Afsar is due to stand for the Tories in Derby’s local authority election next week.

In a Facebook status praising David Cameron’s leadership she told a friend she would never “drop that low and support the Al Yahud! Lol”.

The Conservative minister spoke about Israel's technological successes and the country's relationship with Britain.

She told an audience at Finchley United Synagogue about her hopes for peace in the Middle East.
