Former Conservative councillor is Ukip hopeful

A Lubavitch ex-councillor has been selected as one of the UK Independence Party’s highest-ranked European parliamentary election candidates.

Shneur Odze was previously a Conservative Party councillor in the London borough of Hackney, but will bid for a seat in Brussels at next May’s elections.

Defending shechita and circumcision would be key priorities if elected, said Mr Odze.

‘Anti-Israel MPs can hijack new All-Party Group’

Tories attack Warsi Israel slur

The Foreign Office this week refused to apologise after Baroness Warsi gave Parliament a vastly inflated figure for the number of Palestinian civilians killed by Israel.

After more than 24 hours, a spokesman eventually conceded that the figures were wrong.

Foreign Office blames 'clerical error' for Palestinian death total

The Foreign Office has failed to apologise after Baroness Warsi provided Parliament with a vastly inflated number of Palestinian civilians killed by Israel.

A spokesman said a “clerical error” was to blame for the claim that there had been more than 3,600 fatalities since January 2012.

The creation of a new parliamentary group to promote Jewish issues has brought long-simmering tensions between the Board of Deputies and other communal organisations to the boil.

On Wednesday the Board announced that it would form the secretariat to a new All-Party Parliamentary Group on British Jews, to launch next month.

JC columnist Daniel Finkelstein to join Lords as new Peers revealed

Times associate editor and JC columnist Daniel Finkelstein has been made a Conservative peer.

He was included on a list of working peerages announced by Downing Street today.

Mr Finkelstein, who is also a JC board member, was previously head of policy at the Conservative Party.
