Hague and Kerry due in Israel for peace talks

Foreign Secretary William Hague is due to visit Israel this week during a short tour of the Middle East.

He is expected to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for talks on the peace process.

The trip has been planned for some time and is being made in an effort to support US Secretary of State John Kerry's work to encourage Israelis and Palestinians to return to negotiations.

Bibi held secret talks with Palestinians

The head of the PLO Executive Committee, Yasser Abed Rabbo, has revealed that secret discussions about peace talks took place between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the PLO two years ago.

According to the Times of Israel, Mr Netanyahu and Mr Abed Rabbo met several times in 2010 and 2011 at the house of Israel chief negotiator Yitzhak Molcho.

Departure of PA PM Fayyad creates West Bank Limbo

PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad has resigned

Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad has resigned.

President Mahmoud Abbas accepted Mr Fayyad’s resignation after a brief meeting at the Muqata government compound in Ramallah on Saturday.

Rumours of Mr Fayyad’s resignation surfaced last week following his disagreement with Mr Abbas over the departure of finance minister Nabil Qassis.

US and Europe act to prevent resignation of Fayyad

American and European officials have asked Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to postpone a meeting with Prime Minister Salam Fayyad which was meant to take place today.

It is believed that Mr Abbas wanted to discuss the possibility of Mr Fayyad leaving the government.
