Jewish group Yachad backs Palestinian statehood bid

Yachad, the alternative Israel campaign group, has come out in favour of United Nations recognition of Palestinian statehood.

Hannah Weisfeld, director of the organisation which launched in the UK earlier this year, said that it would prefer recognition of a Palestinian state to be "the end product of a negotiated settlement, rather than its starting point".

Australia set to vote against Palestinian bid

The Australian government is expected to announce within 24 hours that it will vote against a Palestinian attempt to unilaterally declare statehood.

The Palestinian Authority is set to apply to the Security Council for full membership during the United Nations session on Friday.

The move has been vocally opposed by the US and Israel, but is supported by many EU countries.

Gaza and West Bank in timely dispute

Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank have found another subject to argue over.

As of this week, the two are now separated by an hour – not in terms of how long it takes to travel from one to the other, but in terms of time.

Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, moved the clocks back an hour at the beginning of Ramadan to make the fast easier.
