Ofcom rejects Hizb ut-Tahrir’s complaint against Panorama

Ofcom, the broadcasting watchdog, has rejected a complaint of unfairness made by the radical Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain against the BBC.

Hizb ut-Tahrir lodged a protest against a Panorama programme in October last year presented by a former member, Shiraz Maher.

One of its complaints concerned a claim that Omar Sharif, the would-be British suicide bomber who was involved in a fatal attack on a Tel Aviv bar, had been influenced by the group.

Viewers enraged by comic’s Shoah sketch

Media watchdog Ofcom is investigating Channel 4's The Kevin Bishop Show after receiving dozens of complaints about a Holocaust-themed sketch.

The two-minute skit, aired last Friday evening, was a spoof musical version of the scene in the film Sophie's Choice in which the heroine is forced to choose which of her two children to keep with her at Auschwitz.

Ofcom rejects anti-Zionist's TV complaint

Ofcom, the media regulator, has rejected a complaint of unfair treatment against Channel Four by Tony Greenstein, the veteran anti-Zionist campaigner.

Mr Greenstein appeared in a programme made by Richard Littlejohn, the Daily Mail columnist, about rising antisemitism in the UK which was shown last July.

He complained that viewers might have gained the impression that he agreed with the idea that antisemitism was on the increase.

BBC cleared in wedding-snaps row

Ofcom, the broadcasting watchdog, has rejected a complaint of unfairness made against the BBC by a pair of Salford wedding photographers. Hilary and Gary Segal had protested about stories featuring dissatisfied customers on the local news programme North West Tonight shown on April 3 and 11 last year. A number of brides had complained that they had not received the album of wedding photographs they had ordered from the Segals, owners of the Segal Studio and Memories in the Making. Some of the clients had received only prints and negatives, while others had got nothing at all.
