BBC defends 'Jewish lobby' interview

The BBC has defended an interview with controversial American Jewish academic Norman Finkelstein in which the presenter referred to “the Jewish lobby”.

Three complaints have so far been received by the corporation about the Hardtalk programme broadcast on the News Channel last week.

Obama sends antisemitism tsar to Malmo

Hannah Rosenthal, Barack Obama's special envoy to monitor and combat antisemitism, has travelled to Malmö, Sweden, for a closed-doors meeting with the city's mayor who has been accused of fomenting hatred of Jews.

Ilmar Reepalu recently told Swedish magazine Neo that the far-right Sweden Democrat party has "infiltrated the Jewish community in order to push its hatred of Muslims".

Can Iranians compromise in Istanbul?

Until last week, it was not even clear where talks would happen.

On Friday, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany (P5+1) will meet their Iranian counterparts in Istanbul, for a new round of negotiations over Iran's nuclear programme. There is no reason to be optimistic about the talks, despite the initial mood expressed by Brussels and Washington.
