Norwood joins Spurs in sporting venture

A Norwood partnership with Tottenham Hotspur that will offer sporting opportunities for those with learning disabilities has received a £444,000 grant from Sport England's Inclusive Sport Fund.

Through Change the Game, Norwood and the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation will deliver sporting sessions for over 200 people across London and Berkshire for the next three years.


Norwood adopts merger venture

Norwood is merging its adoption services with children's charity Coram.

The move has been made in response to new legislation intended to speed up the adoption process. This had created a problem for Norwood, chief executive Elaine Kerr explained. "Our team is very small and if we were to keep pace with the new legislation we would need a much larger number of people to respond appropriately.


Simon Cowell celebrates birth of Jewish son

He’s the daddy of all things showbiz – and now Simon Cowell has fathered a baby boy with Jewish-American socialite Lauren Silverman.

The music mogul, 54, jetted from London to New York to be by Ms Silverman’s side at the birth in the Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan last Friday - Valentine’s Day - at 10 45pm.


Norwood offers bags of support to Philippines

Norwood has collected thousands of items of clothing and bedding towards the relief effort for victims of the Philippines typhoon.

Staff members and clients donated, sorted and packed clothing and bedding items in an operation also involving Wellington College in Berkshire and Stanmore Synagogue.


Sir Tom Jones helps Norwood rock to the tune of £3.2 million

Nothing beats a practical demonstration of a charity’s work. And, with a little help from Sir Tom Jones, drummer Saul Zur-Szpiro supplied it to the 1,100 guests at Norwood’s annual dinner on Monday, which raised £3.2 million for its work with children, families and those with learning difficulties.

Norwood and Ravenswood service users triumphed at the Special Olympics GB in Bath, achieving a 19-medal haul.

The 16 men and one woman ranged in age from 25 to 60 and participated in events from the long jump to the 400m sprint. Family and friends turned out to support them.
