Natalie Portman, the baby and the vegan restaurant bill

For any new mother, taking their baby son to a restaurant is fraught with challenges, But actress Natalie Portman proved adept at dealing with a room full of disgruntled diners last week.

Her son Alef, who is nearly a year old, was apparently not as enamoured with the menu at a vegan deli in Los Angeles as his mother was, and refused to stop crying.

Natalie Portman is now wearing a wedding ring

Natalie Portman is now a married woman, according to a jeweller who designed rings for the star and her partner.

The Jerusalem-born actress sparked rumours after walking the red carpet at Sunday's Academy Awards with a ring on her finger.

The 30-year-old, who won the Best Actress Oscar a year ago for her role in Black Swan, has not confirmed the speculation.

Portman planning Safran Foer animals documentary

Natalie Portman will no longer be eating cheesecake on Shavuot - because reading Jonathan Safran Foer's novel Eating Animals persuaded her to become a vegan.

The Oscar-winning actress is now planning a documentary, based on the book.

Jonathan Safran Foer told a French website: "Natalie Portman is going to make a movie of it. She wants to make a very personal documentary.

Ms Portman, who was born Natalie Hershlag in Jerusalem, was joined by her fiancé, choreographer Benjamin Millepied. Their son Alef was born six months ago.

The Jerusalem-born actress has named her son "Alef" after the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

Ms Portman is engaged to Alef's father, the Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied.

However there is no word yet on the possibility of Alef being joined by a sister called Bet.

The Black Swan star has given birth to a baby boy, according to People magazine.

The Jerusalem-born actress, 30, is engaged to the baby's father, choreographer Benjamin Millepied.

Ms Portman has not yet revealed the name of her firstborn.
