Matthew Gould tours Israel's Olympic headquarters

With 500 days until the games kick off in London, Ambassador Matthew Gould met the people hoping to bring israel some gold medal glory.

Mr Gould met International Olympic Committee member Alex Gilady, secretary general of the Olympic committee of Israel Efraim Zinger and Zvika Vershaviak, president of Israel's Olympic committee.

Matthew Gould: 'enormous potential' for UK-Israel cooperation

Matthew Gould has called for increased cooperation between Israeli and British scientists.

The British ambassador to Israel, speaking to Israeli newspaper Ynet soon after the inaugural meeting of the UK-Israel Life Sciences Council, said: "There is enormous potential for the UK to use Israel's innovation.”

Mr Gould, the first Jewish diplomat to hold his position, added: “Israel can provide the UK with a reservoir of relatively low-cost and high quality innovation which the UK could easily tap into.”

Although Herbert Samuel, who served as was the first high commissioner to the British Mandate of Palestine, was also Jewish, Matthew Gould is the first Jew to represent Britain in Israel since the state was founded.

Trinny and Susannah: what Britain's Israeli ambassador should wear

British fashion gurus Trinny and Susannah have shared some style tips with the British Ambassador to Israel at a party at his Ramat Gan home.

Matthew Gould and wife Celia hosted the celebrity-filled party in honour of the pair, who are filming a makeover series in Israel for Channel 10. Other guests at the party, dubbed the ambassador’s "best dressed event yet", included model Galit Guttman, designer Galit Levy and former international footballer Itzik Zohar.

Britain's ambassador to Israel puts up mezuzah

A mezuzah has been fixed on to the door of the British ambassador’s residence in Israel for the first time in history.

Matthew Gould, Britain’s first Jewish ambassador to Israel, was joined by Israel’s Chief Rabbi Meir Lau and Rabbi Isaac Shapira for the short ceremony at the home in the Ramat Gan suburb of Tel Aviv.

Mr Gould and his wife Celia bought the mezuzot cases in Jerusalem and placed inside scrolls hand-written by Rabbi Lau.

Envoy's first move? Enter the Shalit tent

The new British Ambassador to Israel and his wife Celia have visited the parents of kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit at their protest tent in Jerusalem.

Matthew Gould, who arrived in Israel just after Rosh Hashanah, said that Prime Minister David Cameron had asked him to go and see Noam and Aviva Shalit as soon as he arrived in Israel.

The new British ambassador to Israel has called for groups that boycott Israel to “promote co-operation” instead.

Speaking at a reception marking academic links between Britain and Israel, Matthew Gould said: “When people call for an economic boycott, we push commercial collaboration and when people call for a cultural boycott, we push cultural collaboration.”
