Masorti gets shul go-ahead

St Albans Masorti Synagogue has been given the green light to proceed with plans to convert an empty industrial unit just south of the city centre into its first permanent home.

New chapter for up and coming leaders

Ten up and coming Manchester Jewish community leaders were given a reading list by the Chief Rabbi during a weekend in London when they met top communal personalities.

Manchester UJIA United Jewish Leadership Group members spent Shabbat with Rafi Zarum, head of the London School of Jewish Studies, hearing how he had helped to turn around the former Jews' College.

The group then split between Masorti's New North London Synagogue, Finchley Synagogue and the North Western Reform Synagogue in Golders Green.

Masorti tribunal

An Employment Tribunal in Glasgow has given the green light to Warren Bader, a member of the Masorti movement, to pursue a case against the Glasgow Hebrew Burial Society under the Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2004.

Rabbi joins the Saints

Rabbi Raphael Kaiserblueth has been inducted as St Albans Masorti's first full-time minister at a ceremony attended by more than 200 people.

Guests included his parents and fiancée, who made the transatlantic trip especially for the service. His father Claudio, minister at the Beth Tikvah congregation in Richmond, British Columbia, was among the speakers.

Masorti joins the JLC

The Assembly of Masorti Synagogues has become a constituent member of the Jewish Leadership Council.

Masorti communities will be represented by the organisation's co-chair Bill Benjamin.

A former member of the JLC's commission on the future of Jewish schools, Mr Benjamin is also a trustee of JCoSS.

Vivian Wineman, JLC chairman, said: "We are delighted that Masorti has joined the JLC. This will further enhance the council's plurality and expand our organisational membership base."
