Limmud 2014: Dancers step up for Strictly contest

Limmud catering co-ordinator Josh Marting hora-ed his way to victory in the event's version of Strictly Come Dancing.

Josh Martin won the Nikki Millan Trophy after performing an energetic Israeli dance with partner Sophie Sumner, in the Strictly Limmud Dancing contest.

He earned the second highest score from the judges and the highest number of audience votes.

Limmud 2014: Youth facing tough challenges to maintain Jewish life

Understanding the economic pressures and cultural differences of today’s Jewish youth are key to keeping the new generation involved in Judaism

That is the view of David Brown, executive director of the Union of Jewish Students.

“The challenges to being involved are harder today, such as economic pressures like paying off university fees," he noted in a session on Sunday.

Limmud 2014: Yachad founder warns over Israel's future

A prominent British activist has said Israel has no future if it carries on down its current path.

Hannah Weisfeld, founder and director of Yachad, said: “The conflict is becoming worse and more entrenched, and if we can’t find a way to create a different Zionist future entrenched in tolerance and a belief in the humanity of others, I don’t think there’s a future for Israel.”

Limmud 2014: Organisers promise bigger event next year

Organisers of the Limmud annual winter conference have pledged to increase the size of the event in its new venue next year following the success of another full-to-capacity programme.

This week’s conference was the last at Warwick University before Limmud moves to Birmingham in 2015.
