Tonge resigns from Liberal Democrats after Israel controversy

Baroness Tonge has resigned from the Liberal Democrats following anti-Israel comments she made at an Israel Apartheid Week event.

She rejected an ultimatum from party leader Nick Clegg to apologise for the remarks and will no longer sit on the party's benches in the House of Lords.

Police are investigating comments made at the Israel Apartheid Week event attended by Liberal Democrat peer Jenny Tonge, the JC can reveal.

Officers are reviewing remarks made by former US marine Ken O'Keefe following allegations that he incited racial hatred when comparing Jewish audience members to Nazis.

The Liberal Democrats have distanced themselves from comments made by party peer Jenny Tonge during an Israel Apartheid Week event.

Speaking to an audience at Middlesex University's Free Palestine Society she said Israel would "not last forever".

"Israel will lose support and then they will reap what they have sown," she added.

Chris Huhne: climate caution like Nazi appeasement

Chris Huhne has compared climate change sceptics to politicians in the 1930s who believed Adolf Hitler could be appeased.

The Energy Secretary was speaking at Chatham House when he said that today's need for a deal tackling climate change was "our Munich moment".

"Giving in to the forces of low ambition would be an act of climate appeasement," he said.

The man described as "the Godfather" of the hedge fund industry, Lord Fink runs hedge fund International Standard Asset Management and was the chief executive of the MAN Group. He has donated more than donated £1.9 million to his party in the last eight years.
