Professor Shlomo Sand says he no longer regards himself as Jewish.

But at a packed meeting in London, he was challenged over why he had not rejected his Israeli citizenship too.

Entrants are asked to submit videos about Shabbat UK and the best video will win a tablet computer.

Chief Rabbi to attend 'scrolls' event

Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis is to be the guest speaker at the opening of an exhibition about Torah scrolls which survived the Nazis, in a move which marks another departure from his predecessor Lord Sacks.

The display will mark 50 years since 1,564 scrolls were brought from Czechoslovakia to Westminster Synagogue by philanthropist Ralph Yablon.

Lincoln's arch heritage

A 15-foot arch celebrating Lincoln's medieval Jewish heritage is set to be installed at the entrance to the city's medieval Cathedral Quarter.

The wrought-iron structure features the Star of David prominently and includes details depicting the life of Jewish traders during the Middle Ages.

Son of dead cyclist in plea to Boris Johnson

The son of a Jewish cyclist killed in a collision with a lorry, has called on the Mayor of London to “stop promoting cycling in an unsafe city”.

Dr Clive Richards suffered a heart attack after he was struck by a lorry on Archway Road in Highgate last August. The 67-year-old grandfather, from Whetstone was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Rachael Neustadt reunited with kidnapped sons

An Orthodox Jewish mother has been reunited with her two sons after they were kidnapped by their father in December 2012.

Rachael Neustadt, a former teacher, said she wanted to thank the UK Jewish community for their “prayers” after she was reunited with Daniel Jacob, aged eight, and Jonathan, six.
