Jerusalem protestors are not what you think

The cost of living demonstrations have caught the nation's imagination in Israel. Weekly rallies have attracted as many as 300,000 people and polling puts public support at close to 90 percent.

But British Jews seem to have greeted the new movement with at best a shrug and at worst criticism.

The former Fox News presenter Glenn Beck has addressed around 1,000 supporters at his controversial Restoring Courage rally in Jerusalem.

The presence of protesters calling for the controversial right-winger to "go home" did not deter him, as he spoke against the backdrop of the Old City of Jerusalem.

Glenn Beck has begun his highly anticipated but controversial Jerusalem solidarity rally.

The conservative US pundit, until recently a presenter on Fox News, announced plans in May to stage the "Restoring Courage" in Israel.

At the time he said he wanted "to show the world what living a life of faith and honour really means," adding: "I will be counted and I will stand."

Arson possible cause of Jerusalem forest fire

Israeli investigators are looking into the possibility that a fire that blazed just metres from the Holocaust museum Yad Vashem was caused by arson.

The wildfire, the worst in Israel since the devastating blaze in the Carmel forest last November, was put under control by the end of Sunday.

Religious newspaper bars women from Jerusalem event

A management conference organised by one of Israel's strictly Orthodox newspapers, Hamodia, was remarkable for one reason – not a single woman was allowed to participate.

According to Israel's Ynet, women of all religious leanings were prevented from attending the annual "Management Forum", at which speakers included the mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat.

George Orwell's famous statement "Four legs good, two legs bad" is facing a challenge in a strictly Orthodox neighbourhood of Jerusalem.

A four-legged chicken had caused consternation amongst Mea Shearim residents as rabbis debate whether such a creature is properly kosher.

According to rabbis, the 12-toed bird must be slaughtered before its kosher status can be determined.
