No Alexandra Burke, but supporters still party

Israeli singing sensation Ishtar had fans dancing at Wembley Arena during the Zionist Federation’s Yom Ha’atzmaut gala concert this week.

The pop star appeared with her band Alabina and was joined on stage by Latin band Chico and the Gypsies.

The acts headlined Tuesday evening’s event following the late withdrawal of X Factor winner Alexandra Burke.

Zionist Federation mystified by Alexandra Burke concert cancellation

The chairman of the Zionist Federation has said the organisation does not know why X Factor winner Alexandra Burke pulled out of tonight's Israel’s 65 concert.

The singer, who performed at Jewish weddings with the Gilev Showband before her rise to fame in 2008, was due to perform at the Yom Ha’atzmaut event at Wembley Arena.

According to a report released on Sunday by the Central Bureau of Statistics, th e population increase d by 1.8 per cent over the last year.

Obama visits Jerusalem as Israel tour continues

Israel President Shimon Peres has welcomed his American counterpart to Jerusalem on the first day of Barack Obama's trip to Israel.

The two heads of state planted a magnolia tree in the gardens of the presidential residence.

Schoolchildren sang Tomorrow from the musical Annie in Hebrew, Arabic and English.

Israel’s 65th will draw us all closer

Plans are being drawn up for major communal events to mark Israel's 65th birthday in central London and Manchester on June 2.

They would be the biggest public displays of support for Israel since the parades which were staged in the two cities for Israel's 60th birthday five years ago.
