Yehuda Avner dies aged 86

Yehuda Avner, a former ambassador to the UK and senior adviser to a succession of Israeli prime ministers, has died at the age of 86.

Born in Manchester in 1928, Mr Avner moved to Jerusalem in 1956, before joining the Israeli Foreign Service.

Professor dropped from university institute over controversial Israel conference

An academic institute has removed from its board the organiser of a conference questioning Israel’s right to exist.

Accoridng to the Academic Friends of Israel blog The Parkes Institute, a study centre for Jewish – non-Jewish relations at Southampton University, has dropped Professor Oren Ben-Dor over his role in arranging the conference at the university.

Facebook post advertising We Believe in Israel conference is target for 'torrent of abuse'

Organisers of a pro-Israel conference say they are “shocked by the foul antisemitic abuse” people were leaving on their Facebook page.

The We Believe in Israel conference is due to take place in central London on March 22 and a post advertising the event online has been inundated with users leaving a “torrent of abuse”.

Former minister voices concerns over Southampton conference on Israel legitimacy

A university has been criticised over its plans to hold a conference on the legitimacy of Israel.

The three-day event will be hosted by the University of Southampton’s Law School and is due to take place next month. It will focus on “themes of legitimacy, responsibility and exceptionalism; all of which are posed by Israel’s very nature”.
