Mother of missing Israeli soldier Baumel in fresh FCO plea

The mother of Israel's longest missing-in-action soldier is to lobby the British government to release secret files to help trace her son after 30 years.

This Monday marked the 30th anniversary of the Battle of Sultan Yacoub during the 1982 Lebanon war, when Zachary Baumel, Tzvi Feldman and Yehuda Katz went missing. Miriam Baumel spoke of her son at a special ceremony in Jerusalem this week.

Israeli soldier killed on Gaza border

An Israeli soldier has been killed after a Palestinian gunman crossed the border from Gaza early this morning.

The Palestinian was also killed after Israeli forces responded to his infiltration, which may have been made in an attempt to kidnap an IDF soldier.

Lapid outlines plans for strictly Orthodox national service

The journalist turned politician Yair Lapid has unveiled his vision for Israel and his plan to bring more strictly Orthodox Israelis into the IDF.

Mr Lapid, whose newly established party is called "Yesh Atid", which translates as "there is a future" announced earlier this year that he planned to mount a challenge to the existing Israeli government.

IDF soldiers come to aid of Palestinian baby

Israeli soldiers have rescued a 12-day old Palestinian baby in a potentially life-threatening condition.

The infant's panicked mother took her to an IDF post in the Binyamin region of the West Bank on Sunday evening, concerned by the girl's poor breathing.

"She was suffering from severe breathing difficulty and was simultaneously vomiting," said battalion doctor, Captain Michael Findler.

Deal in works to reveal fate of missing Israeli soldier Madji Halabi

Israel is believed to be a step closer to determining the fate of a Druze soldier who went missing nearly seven years ago.

IDF soldier Majdi Halabi was 19 when he was last sighted on May 24 2005, attempting to hitchhike near Mount Carmel. His parents and others believe Private Halabi was kidnapped, and he appears on the Foreign Ministry's official list of missing in action soldiers.

Gilad Shalit formally released from IDF service

Gilad Shalit has been formally released from IDF service.

The former soldier was freed in October after more than five years as a prisoner of terrorist group Hamas.

He was captured as a 19 year old during his mandatory army service, in a raid at the Gaza border.

Israeli officer suspended over protest violence

The Israeli president and prime minister have publicly condemned an officer who was filmed striking an unarmed protester.

The senior officer has been suspended by the Israeli military pending an investigation. Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner was captured on film hitting with his rifle a Danish activist who was demonstrating against Israeli government policies in the West Bank.
