The SAZF had reportedly threatened to protest outside the shul should Judge Goldstone attend.

Analysis: Goldstone synagogue ban is dangerous

By Rabbi Reuben Livingstone, April 15, 2010

I am no fan of Judge Richard Goldstone. As a lawyer, I consider his report on the Gaza campaign to be unbalanced, prejudicial and defamatory — certainly not a piece of work of which any professional jurist ought to be proud.

It has undoubtedly resulted in gratuitous political and moral damage to Israel and the IDF.

As a South African, I understand the outrage and sense of betrayal felt by a community which has always been exemplary in its loyalty to Israel and the Jewish people.

Britain has endorsed a resolution at the United Nations General Assembly which gives both Israel and the Palestinians a further five months to launch independent investigations of alleged war crimes committed during Operation Cast Lead.

By Anshel Pfeffer, February 11, 2010

An investigation by an Israeli think tank has alleged that the military expert on the UN’s Goldstone Commission, Desmond Travers, was so biased against Israel that the commission’s report was a travesty of the truth.

And in an interview last week, Colonel Travers — who retired from the Irish Army in 2001 — accused “Jewish lobbyists” of strongly influencing Britain’s Middle East policy.
