The Brit awards in history

Jewish musician Mark Ronson is up for the award for Best British Male Solo Artist, while Vampire Weekend, the New-York based band with a Jewish guitarist called Ezra Koenig, could win the International Group nod.

Actresses Lea Michele and Dianna Agron could also win as part of the Glee Cast in the International Breakthrough category.

Glee trousers: the next step

One of Britain's leading spinal injury units is poised to buy an Israeli device designed to help paraplegics .

The ReWalk - essentially motorised trousers - was created by Israeli entrepreneur Amit Goffer, who became paralysed after a car crash in 1997.

Mr Goffer, who has a PhD in electrical and computer engineering, decided to build his own device and later set up a company, Argo Medical Technologies in Yokneam, to sell them.

Golden Globes: Aaron Sorkin's The Social Network up for awards

Jewish screenwriter Aaron Sorkin has been nominated for a Golden Globe for his film about the creation of Facebook.

The Social Network, which stars Jewish actors Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield, is up for best screenplay at the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards.

It has also been placed in the category for Best Film, while its stars have been nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively.

To take the prize The Social Network will have to beat the forthcoming drama about rivalry in the ballet world, Black Swan.

Glee star Idina Menzel to play wedding singer

Jewish Broadway favourite Idina Menzel is to star as a Barmitzvah singer in a new television series.

The actress, recently on screen as Rachel Berry’s estranged mother in Glee, is to start filming the as-yet untitled series next year, for it to air in autumn.

Ms Menzel will play a single mother and the show will look at her relationship with her daughter as well as her professional life as a waitress and part-time wedding singer.
