Remains of missing Israeli soldier Majdi Halabi found

The body of an Israeli soldier has been found more than seven years after he went missing while on a hike.

Majdi Halabi was 19 when he was last seen on May 24 2005, near Mount Carmel.

Remains found in nearby Daliyat al-Karmel three weeks ago were forensically tested, and DNA evidence has now confirmed they are those of Private Halabi.

Lessons from Shalit to help Israeli soldiers in the future

Nearly a year after IDF soldier Gilad Shalit was freed in a prisoner exchange deal with Hamas, Israeli military leaders are hoping to draw lessons from his experience.

According to a report in Ha'aretz newspaper, the army is now training soldiers from elite units about what to expect should they be taken captive, using information given to them by Sergeant Shalit.
