News of a deal inked between israel and Hamas to secure the release of Gilad Shalit prompted wild celebrations in Jerusalem. British teenagers on the FZY and Bnei Akiva yearcourse schemes were there to join in.

Leading questions facing movement heads

Habonim Dror, Noam Masorti Youth and BBYO are being led by women, while two other movements have scrapped the single director system in favour of leadership teams.

The new directors include two philosophy graduates, two former Cambridge students and an ex-university level netball player.

Israel gap year could boost university application

Participants on gap year schemes in Israel could find that their time abroad helps them win a university place.

Students can boost their Ucas tariff points by 70 points – equivalent to an A grade at AS Level – by earning a Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (Cope).

This one time, at summer camp...

It's that time of year again - the time when thousands of British children and teenagers set off for Jewish summer camps, programmes and tours.

But whether it's a tent in a muddy field, a room at a disused boarding school or a hostel somewhere far flung and exotic, it's probably made it into a Hollywood version already.

FZY: independent Young Judea 'extremely positive'

Youth movement FZY has offered reassurance that the decision by its US partner to split from its longtime parent organisation will not impact programmes for British teenagers.

Young Judea announced last week that it would become independent from Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, after more than 70 years of collaboration.

British teens run Jerusalem marathon

British participants on the FZY gap year scheme joined athletes from around the world to take part in the Jerusalem Marathon and raise more than £7,400 for the Ethiopian Barmitzvah Fund.

Forty-five members of the year course group completed runs. Most took on 10 kilometres, while three people successfully finished the half-marathon.
