Spurs fans ready to fight ‘Yid’ charges

Three Tottenham Hotspur supporters have become the first football fans to be charged with criminal offences for using the term “Yid”.

The charges relate to incidents during matches at the club’s White Hart Lane Stadium against FC Sheriff in the Europa League last November and a Premier League game with West Ham United in October.

The France striker used his Facebook page to state that he was "neither antisemitic or racist" and to challenge the allegations against him.

Nicolas Anelka charged by FA over quenelle gesture

The Football Association has charged the West Bromwich Albion footballer Nicolas Anelka over his quenelle gesture.

In a statement issued this morning, the FA said it was alleged that Anelka "made a gesture which was abusive and/or indecent and/or insulting and/or improper, contrary to FA Rule E3[1]".

Police are assessing whether Twitter users who posted a series of antisemitic messages after the FA Cup derby between Arsenal and Tottenham should face criminal charges.

A number of offensive tweets – most referring to the Holocaust – from fans of both clubs were highlighted following a bad-tempered match at the Emirates Stadium in north London on Saturday.
