Yes, this is the world's biggest falafel

A new world record has been set. Chefs at a Jewish event in California sweated in the kitchen to create a falafel that weighed nearly 53 pounds, stood at 12.5 inches tall and was nearly four foot in circumference.

"It's unbelievable," chef Dawn Walker proudly told the Los Angeles Daily News.

Larry King's smoked salmon bagel shop

The 77-year-old, who gave up his nightly CNN spot after a quarter of a century last year, is now a shareholder in the Beverley Hills franchise of an American bagel business.

Palestinian firm seeks kosher food stamp

A tahini manufacturer has become the first Palestinian company in history to apply for a kosher food license.

The Nablus-based Alul Company want to be able sell their products, including the sweet halva, to Israeli chains.

The chief rabbinate said they expected to accept the request, as long as issues of supervision, to ensure nothing was made on Shabbat or with non-kosher ingredients, could be resolved.

The company previously had a license in the 1980s, but lost it when control of Nablus went to the Palestinian Authority.

McDonald's brings McFalafel to Israel

Israeli diners can now enjoy falafel fast food style – but for more calories than a burger.

McDonald’s has just launched a McFalafel option to suit Middle Eastern tastes. Served with tahina or pita bread and chopped salad, prices range from ten shekels (£1.80) to 34.90 shekels (£6), depending on portion size and extras.

Breadsticks at dawn with bakery rivals lawsuit

The Jewish owners of two London bakeries are engaged in a legal row over alleged unpaid loans and an aborted plan to work together.

After developing cosmetics company Space NK and the vegetarian food chains Eat and Two Veg, entrepreneur David Krantz set up the Artisan Bakery in Park Royal.

His success in the industry was matched by restaurateur Doron Zilkha who owns the Brompton Quarter Brasserie in Knightsbridge and more recently founded the Bread Boutique off the King's Road.
