Zuckerberg: Steve Jobs 'changed the world'

Facebook's founder has paid tribute to the Apple pioneer Steve Jobs.

Mr Jobs died early this morning at the age of 56 after a long fight with cancer.

He was described as "mentor and a friend" by Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, who launched his company nearly 30 years after Apple was set up.

Palestinian activists hack religious Jewish Facebook

A social networking site for the strictly Orthodox has received an unwelcome visitor.

A pro-Palestinian hacker accessed the FaceGlat site this weekend and changed its homepage to show a message of Palestinian solidarity.

Police probe for Giffnock Facebook

Police are investigating who was behind a Facebook page mocking the Jewish community of Giffnock in Glasgow.

Nearly 1,000 people "liked" the "Welcome to Israel, only kidding you're in Giffnock" page, which remained on the social networking site for more than a week before it was shut down last Friday.

The page hosted comments including "Jewish scum" and "F--- the Jewish Zionist".

Giffnock Jews attacked on Facebook

A Facebook page has been set up mocking the Jewish community of Giffnock in Glasgow.

The page, which has attracted nearly 1,000 "likes", is called "Welcome to Israel, only kidding you're in Giffnock".

Under the information given for the page, the creator wrote: "They have a Gaelic translation in the train station, Hebrew would have been more appropriate."

Birthday focus on Gilad Shalit

British Jewry joined international efforts to highlight the plight of Gilad Shalit as the Israeli soldier's family marked his sixth birthday since his capture by Hamas.

Sergeant Shalit turned 25 on Sunday and the Board of Deputies wrote to other religious groups urging them to support efforts to secure his freedom.

Body of missing hiker found in Ecuador

The body of a German Jewish backpacker has been found in a river in Ecuador more than a week after he went missing while on a hike.

Friends and family of Jonathan Simon, from Munich, launched an internet campaign to help with the search. More than 4,300 people joined a Facebook group, while alerts were posted on travel forums such as Trip Advisor.

Facebook: Holocaust denial pages can stay on site

Facebook has refused to remove pages where internet users espouse Holocaust denial despite a plea from a group of Holocaust survivors.

Earlier this month 21 survivors of Nazi persecution signed a letter which was sent to Facebook, asking that Holocaust denial no longer be allowed as part of facebook's "free speech" policy.
