BNP set for trouncing in local elections

Unlike four years ago, the Board of Deputies has not felt the need to run a campaign against the BNP, and anti-fascist campaign group Hope Not Hate has predicted widespread defeat for BNP candidates.

Man who called Jews ‘scum’ back in jail

A Welsh man who was jailed for encouraging racial hatred is back in prison after being given a 12 month sentence for harassment.

Trevor Hannington, who was associated with the far-right Aryan Strike Force, was jailed for two years under the Terrorism Act in 2010.

The neo-Nazi had described Jews as “scum” that should be “destroyed”.

Call for Sunderland chair to resign over Di Canio

A leading Reform rabbi and the dean of Durham have attacked Sunderland AFC’s appointment of Paolo Di Canio as head coach.

Rabbi Jonathan Romain, of Maidenhead Synagogue, called on Sunderland chairman Ellis Short to resign for overlooking Mr Di Canio’s apparent fascist beliefs when hiring him this week.

Livingstone to deliver anti-racist talk

Ex-London mayor Ken Livingstone is to address a National Union of Students conference later this month looking at challenging antisemitism, racism, Islamophobia and fascism.

He is one of several speakers invited to address the NUS Anti-Racism, Anti-Fascism event, with MP Margaret Hodge and the president of the Federation of Student Islamic Societies also on the bill.

Neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party targets schools

Leaders of the Greek neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party have announced plans to open nursery schools.

The decision comes after the organisation ran a pilot class at the party's offices in Artemida last month.

More than 20 children, aged six to 10, were taught "Greek ideals" and mythology in accordance with the ideological values of the third most popular party in Greece.

May’s pledge to fight extremist groups in UK

Home Secretary Theresa May has said the government is doing everything possible to counter extremist groups operating in Britain.

Speaking at the Community Security Trust annual dinner in central London on Wednesday evening, Mrs May said more would be done to stop extremists "masquerading as charities" in order to raise funds.
