The derailment of IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn's political career over sexual assault allegations could strengthen the influence of France's far-right.

Mr Strauss-Kahn was arrested and charged with the "criminal sexual act, unlawful imprisonment, and attempted rape" of a 32-year-old chambermaid at a New York hotel yesterday.

'Appalling' result for BNP at local elections

The British National Party has suffered defeats in council seats across the United Kingdom.

The far-right party lost all of its five city council seats in Stoke-on-Trent, and both of its seats in North West Leicestershire.

In the Barpool ward on Nuneaton and Bedworth borough council, where the party already had one councillor, the BNP failed to win a second seat.

Bin Laden supporters pledge to continue jihad

Followers of Osama bin Laden have called for revenge against the United States just hours after President Barack Obama announced the terrorist leader had been killed.

On extremist websites people prayed that the al-Qaida leader was still alive and said his message of jihad would "never die".

Students elect two who back Caliphate

The Union of Jewish Students has said it is "unacceptable" that two students linked to extreme Islamist organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir have been elected to lead a student union.

Tarik Mahri and Jamal Achchi were elected by the University of Westminster Students' Union despite the NUS's no-platform policy for the radical group. UWSU does not implement the NUS ban on Hizb ut-Tahrir.
