Ed Miliband: 'Israel is the Jewish homeland'

Labour leader Ed Miliband will travel to the Israeli town of Sderot today as he continues his tour of the country.

Mr Miliband described Israel as "the homeland for the Jewish people" during a meeting with Hebrew University of Jerusalem students on Thursday.

He also held meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Labour leader Isaac Herzog.

Ed Miliband arrives in Israel as two-day tour begins

Labour leader Ed Miliband has arrived in Israel for a two-day tour of the country.

In one of his first major foreign trips since becoming opposition leader, Mr Miliband will travel to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Sderot, the town which has come under regular bombardment from Hamas terrorists.

On Thursday morning he held meetings with Israeli Labour Party members over breakfast.

Labour leader Ed Miliband set for Israel trip

Labour leader Ed Miliband will travel to Israel next week for a three-day visit.

The Opposition leader is due to arrive in Tel Aviv on Thursday, and will hold meetings in Jerusalem with senior Israeli political figures.

Mr Miliband, whose parents fled Nazi oppression during the Holocaust, is also expected to visit the Yad Vashem Shoah museum.

Ed Miliband looked out on the 1,000 guests gathered for a sit-down, kosher-catered meal and said: “This is the barmitzvah I never had.”

Actually he didn’t say that, but perhaps he should have. When the Labour leader addressed the annual dinner of the Community Security Trust last week, he didn’t bother with an opening gag. He said a few thank-yous, then went straight into substance.

He told guests at the Community Security Trust’s annual dinner on Wednesday: “I feel more part of the Jewish community than at any other time in my life”.

Ed Miliband announces Israel visit

Labour leader Ed Miliband is expected to make an official visit to Israel within the next three months, the JC can reveal.

The trip is scheduled to be one of the Opposition leader’s first major foreign trips and will come a year before the General Election.

Mr Miliband is also due to be the keynote speaker at the Community Security Trust’s annual dinner in London next month.

Top journalist defends Mail over Miliband article

One of the country’s top Jewish journalists has rebutted claims that the Daily Mail strayed into antisemitism in its attack on the father of Labour leader Ed Miliband.

Alex Brummer, the Daily Mail’s City editor, who is also a vice-president of the Board of Deputies, went on the BBC Radio 4’s Today this morning to denounce the suggestion of antisemitism as “despicable”.
