David Cameron tells Israeli ambassador Daniel Taub: 'You will be missed'

David Cameron has written to outgoing Israeli ambassador Daniel Taub to thank him for his diplomatic work during four years in Britain.

The Prime Minister said Mr Taub had played a “crucial role” in improving ties between the countries.

In a hand-written note at the end of the letter, Mr Cameron thanked the ambassador for “the many kind things you have said about me”.

Israel's Ambassador to the UK Daniel Taub and his wife, Zehava, will be returning to Israel this summer, the Israeli embassy announced today.

Ambassador Taub took up his post four years ago and since then Israel-UK trade has doubled.


Hundreds gather at London vigil for murdered teenagers

Hundreds of people gathered for a candlelit vigil outside the Israeli embassy on Wednesday night to express their solidarity with the bereaved families of the three Israeli teenagers who were kidnapped and killed in the West Bank.

Representatives of major communal organisations were present, including the Jewish Leadership Council, the Board of Deputies, UJIA and the Zionist Federation.

Israel's ambassador to Britain has led a fringe session at the Church of England's General Synod.

Daniel Taub spoke to around 80 bishops, church ministers and lay leaders about applying biblical lessons to the Middle East peace process.

Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu was among the participants who heard Mr Taub discuss his past experience as part of Israel's negotiating team.
