Man charged over racist attacks in Salford

A man has been charged with 14 racially aggravated offences after a number of Jewish people were targeted in Salford.

Dean Parker, 22, of Merrick Avenue, Wythenshawe, has been charged with 14 counts of racially aggravated common assault.

Between 8 June and 10 June 2009 14 people from the Broughton Park Jewish community were sprayed with water as a Fiat Doblo drove past them in the Broughton Park area.

He will appear at Salford Magistrates' Court on Monday 28 September 2009

Three charged in safety deposit centre raid

Three people have been charged in connection with Operation Rize, a series of raids on safety deposit centres carried out by the Metropolitan Police in June last year.

Milton Woolf, 53, of West Heath Drive, Golders Green, a director of Safe Deposit Centres Limited, the company that controlled Hampstead Safe Depository, Edgware Safe Depository, and Park Lane Safe Depository, has been charged with 24 offences.

Netanyahu uses British tactics to fight crime wave

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has come out with a five-point plan for dealing with the rise in crime in Israel, based upon British and American experience.

Mr Netanyahu published his plan following a wave of crime in which 14 Israelis have been murdered in less than a month.

In a special radio interview, Mr Netanyahu termed the violence “inner terrorism” and said, “if missiles are fired at us, we respond fiercely immediately. In the same way I am not prepared to accept any kind of terrorism against Israeli citizens.”

Samurai sword attack on couple

A couple who were attacked by samurai sword-wielding neighbours in their Marylebone home are outraged after the pair walked free from court.

Madeline and Simon Korn said they were “disgusted” after Mrs Freddie Booker-Carson was given an absolute discharge after admitting common assault.

Mrs Booker-Carson’s husband, Simon, was earlier given a suspended sentence after he pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm after he attacked Mr Korn in October last year.

Ex- JC reporter cleared of assault

A former JC reporter has been cleared of assaulting her neighbour in an argument over her children’s football.

Susannah Marmot, 42, was found not guilty at the Old Bailey after just half an hour of jury deliberations. She faced one charge of actual bodily harm.

Mrs Marmot, of Edgware, north west London, was accused of attacking George Louka and leaving him needing 10 stitches following a row outside their homes in October last year. He had confiscated a ball belonging to the children after it rolled into his garden.

Police hunt £40m Graff jewel thieves

Two armed robbers stole £40m worth of gems from Graff jewellers in Mayfair, in what has been called the biggest jewel heist in British history.

The shop is owned by Jewish billionaire Laurence Graff, who is the UK’s number one diamond dealer and the 36th richest man in the country, according to the Sunday Times Rich List.

The criminals, who were smartly dressed and posing as clients, pulled out handguns and fired two warning shots at the staff in the New Bond Street store, in a robbery whose details were kept secret by police for almost a week.

No kosher cops in ethnic police project

A pilot scheme to give ethnic victims of crime the right to ask for a police officer from their own community is unlikely to involve the Jewish community.

The scheme is currently being tested by London’s Metropolitan Police with the Sikh and Punjabi community. The police is also encouraging its staff associations — which represent minority groups, such as Muslims and Hindus — to promote the initiative within their respective communities.

Rabbis charged in New Jersey fraud swoop

Five rabbis are among those arrested for their alleged involvement in a huge money-laundering scheme, including the trafficking of human body parts, as a result of a 10-year investigation by the FBI in New Jersey.

FBI officials said they had arrested 44 people including two mayors, major political figures and rabbis, part of the Syrian-Jewish community who are said to have laundered the money through their personal charities.

The rabbis who have been charged include Saul Kassin, Grand Rabbi of the US Syrian-Jewish community.

Police chief’s pledge to combat hate crime

The new head of Barnet Police has pledged to do his “utmost to clamp down on antisemitic incidents” following a significant rise in cases within the borough.

Eighty-six incidents were reported in the year ending in March, compared to 53 over the previous 12 months. Close to half occurred in a two-month period from the start of Israel’s Gaza incursion.
