Pig's head left at Scots doorway

Police have said that the leaving of a pig's head outside the home of a Jewish woman in Aberdeen is not a racial incident.

The head, reportedly with a knife stuck in it, was left on the doorstep of the woman on Friday evening the week before last.

Auschwitz visitor arrested for stealing souvenir

Police have detained a French tourist who stole a piece of the wire fence at the Auschwitz concentration camp - because he wanted a souvenir.

According to a Polish news site, the man was arrested as he attempted to board a plane in Krakow.

After the wire was spotted when his luggage was scanned, he admitted to the border guards that he had taken it.

JFS pupils attacked on bus

Barnet police are stepping up patrols in the Hendon area after JFS pupils were assaulted by four boys who burst onto their school bus.

Police said the four attacked a JFS boy while the bus was stationary in traffic on Station Road, Hendon, after school last Wednesday. The teenagers, aged between 15 and 17, are said to have pressed the emergency access button to climb aboard the vehicle.

Delay for miscarriage of justice appeal

A man who was jailed 35 years ago for the gruesome murder of a Jewish clothing shop owner is unlikely to have his appeal heard until next year.

Errol Clive Heibner, known as John, was sentenced to 25 years in prison in 1976. He was convicted of shooting Beatrice "Biddy" Gold in the storeroom of her family's business, but always maintained he was not guilty.

Car jackers flee as businessman fights back

A father-of-two was left "battered and bruised" after fighting off would-be car thieves.

Posing as buyers for the BMW Golders Green businessman Jonathan Marriott was trying to sell online, two men attacked him, spraying a pepper-like substance in his face.

"One of them put his hand over my face and tried to push me, but I resisted" said Mr Marriott, 40.

Call for vigilance after synagogue burglaries

Police in Stamford Hill have stepped up patrols after a spate of burglaries at synagogues.

At least eight shuls have been broken into in the last two months. Small amounts of cash were taken.

Helping hate crime victims

Salford divisional commander Kevin Mulligan addressed the launch of the scheme - enabling hate crime victims to meet the perpetrators to explain the impact of racism - at the Community Security Trust's northern regional office in Manchester.
