One guilty in Stamford Hill gagged and bound death

A Polish decorator has been found guilty of manslaughter after he left an elderly Stamford Hill woman gagged and bound to a chair while he raided her home.

Eveline Kelmenson, 83, died a "slow death" of hypothermia and lay undiscovered for five weeks before she was found by relatives on New Year's Day 2009, her decomposed body still bound to a chair.

Men indicted for rape ordeal of Jewish teen

Four men have been charged with raping an Orthodox Jewish teenager in the Crown Heights neighbourhood of Brooklyn in 2003.

The girl, who is now in her early 20s, was also allegedly beaten and forced into prostitution for the following eight years.

Prosecutors said the men threatened to hurt family members if she informed the authorities.

New York synagogue bomb plotters sentenced

A trio behind a plot to bomb a Bronx synagogue in 2009 have been given 25-year-sentences by a federal judge in the United States.

The FBI intercepted the plans before the men, James Cromitie, David Williams and Onta Williams, could carry them out.

Undercover agents gave the men fake bombs so that when they came to plant the devices in two cars by the synagogue, there was no explosion.

Drunken Chasidic man charged with racist assault

A strictly Orthodox man has been charged with assault after he apparently poured beer on his Turkish neighbour and called her a “terrorist” – and then hid from police in his synagogue.

Simchon Schwartz, 46, from Brooklyn, is said to have grabbed his neighbour, Selda Turan, 27, and shoved her head down on his car, pouring beer over her, and then to have hit her husband in the street.

A Stamford Hill pensioner was left gagged and bound to a chair by burglars for five weeks before her body was discovered, a court heard this week.

Two Polish men broke into 83-year-old Eveline Kelmenson's house through the basement in the middle of the night, before taping her to a chair, robbing her and ransacking her home, a jury at the Old Bailey was told.
