Concern growing over Facebook Third Intifada page

The Community Security Trust (CST) and the Board of Deputies have added their names to the growing list of individuals and organisations calling for Facebook to ban a page deemed “a call to arms” for Palestinian terrorists.

The creators of the page are urging violent uprisings on May 15 or Nakba Day, the date on which Palestinians mourn the establishment of Israel.

The true message of the PM's CST speech

David Cameron's speech to the Community Security Trust last week was an important restatement of his support - up to and including Israel's right to search vessels bringing cargo into Gaza.

This was something of a shift from his indignant remarks during his "prison camp" speech in Turkey last summer when he described the boarding of the Gaza flotilla as completely unacceptable.

As an invited guest from the US, it was fascinating to observe the gathering at Grosvenor House last week as reportedly 1100 of the leaders of Anglo Jewry and their political friends and supporters assembled for the annual CST dinner. It spoke volumes to the high regard in which CST is held by the community and by public officials.

Cameron: Israel 'within its rights' to search Gaza ships

Police tackle hate crime reporting

Greater Manchester Police are launching two initiatives to tackle under-reporting of antisemitic incidents.

In the next few weeks, the force will pilot a hate crime victim support system in Prestwich and Whitefield in partnership with the Community Security Trust. Prestwich's strictly Orthodox community will also have a forum at public meetings in a separate move to engender more engagement with police.

Antisemitic incidents still at record high

Antisemitic incidents have reached the second highest level since records began, according to annual figures released by the Community Security Trust.

The CST confirmed that 639 incidents were reported in 2010, a 31 per cent fall from 2009’s record high of 926, caused by antisemitic reactions to the Gaza conflict in January of that year.

Despite the drop, incidents were 17 per cent higher than the 2008 figure of 546 and 15 per cent higher than 2006, which previously held the highest number of incidents, caused by reactions to the second Lebanon war.
