UK rabbis tell Israel: let women pray at the Wall

A group of more than 20 Progressive rabbis and rabbinic students from the UK have protested to the Israeli ambassador about the treatment of women who want to pray at the Western Wall, describing police threats to arrest the women saying Kaddish as “shocking”.

Charedim to get physical

A £9,000 Maccabi GB grant to the Charedi community will help more than 250 of its members participate in more physical activity.

The award, part of Maccabi’s Sport Participation Fund, has been awarded to six community projects, aimed at helping adults and children — many with a physical or learning disability — benefit from increased exercise.

Moses defeats Spider-Man over Pesach filming

Women of the Wall chair Anat Hoffman due to speak in UK

Anat Hoffman, Women of the Wall chair and executive director of the Israel Religious Action Centre, says “the bravest feminists in Israel today are Orthodox women who are willing to fight.”

Ms Hoffman praised the Orthodox women “who call us to confront the rabbis who seem to be above the law” and to challenge the “hegemony of strictly Orthodox interpretation of women.”

Brooklyn tears after hit and run horror

Around 1,000 members of Brooklyn’s strictly Orthodox community turned out this week for the funerals of Nachman and Raizy Glauber and their newborn child, who were killed in a car crash last weekend.

The newlywed couple, both aged 21, had been travelling to hospital for a check-up on Mrs Glauber when their taxi collided with another car.

Charedi arrested for ordering woman to back of bus

Israeli police have arrested a Charedi man suspected of ordering a 22-year-old woman to the back of a bus last week.

Noa Kentman was sitting at the front of an Egged bus bound for Ashdod when two Charedi men told her to move to the back in an attempt to enforce gender segregation.
