Sacks versus Dawkins in BBC debate

The Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks will take part in a discussion with leading atheist Professor Richard Dawkins in a BBC festival exploring religion and ethics in contemporary society.

The two-day event, entitled Re:think 2012, in September will be hosted by the BBC Religion and Ethics at its centre in Salford.

BBC refuses to identify Israeli capital on London 2012 Olympics site

Paris, Rome, Tbilisi and even Tehran and Damascus appear on the site, but the BBC has refused to identify the capital of Israel on its Olympic website.

As part of its reporting on London 2012, the BBC has created dedicated web pages for each Olympic nation.

MP joins fight to save Manchester radio show

Former Shadow Culture Secretary Ivan Lewis has accused the BBC of treating the Jewish community “differently” over its plans to scrap its only regular Jewish programme.

Mr Lewis is due to meet the BBC’s head of regional and local programmes for the north-west, Aziz Rashid, over the proposed cancellation of BBC Radio Manchester’s Monday night Jewish hour.

Lobby to save Manchester BBC radio show

Manchester’s Jewish Representative Council president has requested a meeting with the BBC’s north-west head as part of a campaign to save the Jewish Citizen Manchester show.

Frank Baigel wants to discuss the axing, on cost-cutting grounds, of the BBC Radio Manchester programme. One campaigner said the corporation had received a “deluge of complaints” over the cancellation.
