Chinese restaurant attacker's appeal is dismissed

A thug who slashed the throat of a man with a Stanley knife in Chinese restaurant in Golders Green, has been told by judges that he deserved his indefinite jail term.

Jacob Charles Butchoff attacked Jonathan Kaae-Mortensen from behind before stabbing him, a court heard.

Assault charge in Stamford Hill

A strictly Orthodox man has been charged with grievous bodily harm to an elderly man after an incident in Stamford Hill. Chanan Elimelech Hertzig, 33, of Tottenham, was arrested following a report of an assault on April 28 in Sharon's Bakery in Stamford Hill.

Strauss-Kahn case has 'holes'

Dominique Strauss-Kahn's downfall is looking less certain following the emergence of "major holes" in the evidence against him over allegations of sexual assault.

The former head of the International Monetary Fund, who has now been replaced by French finance minister Christine Lagarde, was accused of sexually assaulting a Manhattan hotel worker in May.

SOAS bite victim in court battle

A pro-Israel activist who was left with bite marks on his cheek at the School of Oriental and African Studies has launched a legal campaign after he was charged with the same offence as his attacker.

The man required medical treatment after the attack at an Israel Apartheid Week event in March.

His attacker was charged with common assault, but he was charged with the same offence.

Jewish man severely burned in religious feud attack

A Hasidic plumber from New York suffered third degree burns to at least half his body in an attack police said was down to a religious feud.

The victim, named as Aron Rottenberg by The Journal News, was attacked yesterday morning near his home in a strongly Hasidic area, the New Square village in Rockland County.

Struass-Kahn quits IMF to focus on assault case

Dominique Strauss-Kahn has resigned from the International Monetary Fund.

It comes after the former IMF chief was accused of sexual assault by a hotel maid in Manhattan. He was arrested and taken to Riker's Island jail. He is set to appear in court on Friday.

The French politician, 62, said in a statement that he was leaving to "protect the institution."

Prison delay for politician in rape case

Convicted rapist Moshe Katzav will remain outside of prison until his appeal is heard, the Israeli Supreme Court ruled today.

The former Israeli president could be free for several more months while the case is reviewed.

He was sentenced to seven years in jail for rape and sexual assault convictions in March, but at the beginning of May announced that he would challenge the ruling.

New York mayor Michael Bloomberg has weighed into the ongoing scandal involving IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

In the four days since news broke that Mr Strauss-Kahn had been arrested in Manhattan for the "criminal sexual act, unlawful imprisonment, and attempted rape" of a 32-year-old hotel maid, a number of well-known figures have commented on the case.

Rabbi who groped Israeli soldier sentenced to jail

The rabbi who was convicted of groping a female IDF officer on a flight to New York will spend two months behind bars.

Father-of-11 Gavriel Bidany was arrested after the woman, 23, accused him of touching her underneath her airline blanket without her consent.
