Abbas says Holocaust was worst crime in modern history

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has declared that the Holocaust was the most 'heinous' crime committed in modern times.

He made the statement in English, Spanish and Arabic on the website of Wafa, Palestine's official news agency, as Israel began its annual Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Israel’s foreign minister has called the peace deal being negotiated by John Kerry “the best proposal we can get” and has praised the US Secretary of State for his continued efforts.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Avigdor Lieberman said: “There are many problems on the ground, so this direct contact, this negotiation, these talks – it’s very important to keep alive and maintain.”

Relative of first Righteous Arab refuses the award

A relative of the first Arab to be named Righteous Among the Nations has declined to accept the honour on his behalf.

The award was bestowed posthumously by Yad Vashem on Mohamed Helmy, an Egyptian-German doctor, for his role in saving a Jewish family during the Holocaust.
