Alex Epstein, the King David High School boy who couldn’t find his way round Manchester’s Trafford Centre, was the latest victim of reality TV show The Apprentice this week.

The 26-year-old from Whitefield headed Team Apollo for the task of creating a new brand of cleaning product, producing an advert described by Lord Sugar as “shockingly bad”.

Mr Epstein escaped from the boardroom last week despite messing up a marketing strategy in the Trafford Centre, where he had previously worked in retail.

The Aish outreach organisation is re-examining its informal education programmes after a young professional gambler who met a rabbi through the organisation lost a gambling case against the rabbi in the High Court.

Andrew Feldman, a 22-year-old former JFS pupil, took Rabbi Simon Nissim, 34, to the High Court in an attempt to set aside a £136,000 bill.

Katie Melua is to perform at the launch of a welfare charity whose members were moved by a visit to an Aids orphange during an Aish trip to South Africa.

The singer will play an acoustic set at AfricArt, being staged by the African Social Action Project (ASAP) at the Getty Images Gallery in the West End next month.

"These guys went on a trip, saw a problem and have then gone and created their own charity to help. It is incredible and inspiring," she said.

The Reform movement is about to take the first step to launch an alternative to Aish, the Orthodox outreach organisation for young adults.

A residential weekend next month will be the inaugural event by the Assembly of Reform Rabbis to offer a "non-fundamentalist" alternative.
