Leon Brittan defends role over Westminster sex abuse claims

Former Home Secretary Leon Brittan has responded to calls for him to explain what he knew about allegations of paedophilia in Westminster in the 1980s.

Lord Brittan issued a statement after Labour MP Simon Danczuk said there should be a national inquiry into allegations of historic sex abuse.

Police action on alleged Janner sex abuse is 'not imminent'

A decision over whether to prosecute Lord Janner over allegations of historic child sex abuse is no closer this week, despite new revelations about the investigation.

Action against the 85-year-old peer is "not imminent", according to police.

A file was sent by officers to the Crown Prosecution Service in April for consideration. A property owned by Lord Janner was searched in December.

Manchester United owner Malcolm Glazer dies

Manchester United owner Malcolm Glazer died on Wednesday aged 85.

The American Jewish billionaire, born in Rochester, New York, suffered ill health following two strokes in 2006.

He was said to have been experiencing impaired speech and limited mobility.

Police chief urges joint approach against abuse

Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Cressida Dick told 300 Jewish Women's Aid supporters that communal groups had a responsibility to work with the force to tackle domestic violence.

Addressing a central London lunch that raised over £170,000 for the abuse charity, she said that the issue was not one for the criminal justice system alone.

Judge ends battle of tycoons

Russian-Israeli businessman Arkady Gaydamak has lost a fresh claim in the British courts against tycoon Lev Leviev over a Angolan diamond deal worth more than a billion pounds.
High Court judge Mr Justice Mann granted an application from Mr Leviev, who is also of Russian-Israeli background, to strike out the case nearly two years after a previous court judgment.

Care home abuse victim speaks out as Jimmy Savile investigation begins

Jane Hersey was abused by a female nurse at the Sarah Laski Home in Crumpsall, Manchester, in the mid-1960s.

Jewish care home named in Jimmy Savile child abuse investigation

Paedophile Jimmy Savile is believed to have abused children at a Jewish care home, it has been revealed.

The Sarah Laski Home, in Crumpsall, Manchester, opened under the auspices of the city's Jewish Board of Guardians in 1953.

It was today named by the government alongside 20 other homes now being investigated for links to Savile.

Bid to counter domestic violence in Jewish community

Australian Rabbi’s apology over child sex abuse

One of Australia’s most senior Orthodox rabbis has issued an unequivocal apology to the victims of child sex abuse and urged perpetrators to turn themselves in to police.

On the eve of Yom Kippur, Rabbi Moshe Gutnick, president of the Organisation of Rabbis of Australasia, said the “culture of cover-up” is wrong.
